Joe was born and raised in Indianapolis and attended Scecina Memorial High School. He is the son of Joseph T. and Marcella Smith, and is one of 8 children. He attended Purdue University where he earned a degree in Business/Marketing. Joe also earned an MBA from Benedictine University in Lisle, IL.
Joe’s father,Joseph T. Smith, is a veteran of the 92nd Evac. Unit. The writing of this book fulfills a lifelong dream for Joe, who met Fr. Kilian Dreiling for the first time in 1975. At the age of 16, Joe became fascinated by Fr. Kilian’s stories and became a member of Fr. Kilian’s large, extended “family.”
